President Donald Trump told the New York Post’s “Pod Force One” podcast the Iranian regime has agreed not to have nuclear weapons — but he said Tehran could still “change its mind.”
“I had to say we have to do something about Iran, because no matter how well we’re doing (economically), we can’t let them have nuclear weapons,” he said in the interview published Wednesday. “They have already agreed that they will not have nuclear weapons.”
When asked to confirm that the Iranian regime had agreed to that condition, Trump said: “Oh yes, they have agreed to it.”
He said, “I mean, now they can change their mind, but this was one of the things that they had to agree on, they agreed to it. It was a big deal.”
CNBC has contacted Iran’s Foreign Ministry for comment.
