Are you a baby boomer and looking for a sports car this year?
Are you also retired and living on a fixed income or are you not sure your budget will allow you to ride your favorite rides? If yes, don’t worry.
GOBankingRates caught up with Marketing Director Ryan Salata Specialty Auto Parts USA, Inc.Finding four sports cars that work for boomers on a budget in 2026.
Mazda MX-5 Miata
- Average used price: $26,377
Salata called the Mazda MX-5 Miata a friendly little roadster that’s easy to get in and out of for older drivers. While the average used price is $26,377, some used models from 2019 to 2021 can sometimes be found for less than $20,000.
“Its sturdy nature also keeps repair costs down, which is perfect for those on a fixed budget,” explains Salata. “It’s a sensible choice even with parts that run cheaper and a fuel economy of over 30 miles per gallon.”
Toyota GR86
- Average used price: $30,367
Salata highlighted that naturally aspirated engines, such as the one found under the hood of the Toyota GR86, do not typically come with turbo problems that could lead to expensive repairs.
Salata said, “The rear seats fold down to increase utility. Insurance is cheaper than more powerful cars, and Toyota’s reliability adds to the joy of repairs.” Plus, used GR86s from 2022 to 2023 still look new while often costing less than $30,000, which is a good price for retirees on a tight budget.
ford mustang ecoboost
- Average used price: $16,490
According to Salata, the Ford Mustang EcoBoost is a classic that helps retired drivers drive longer distances than many cars still on the road.
“Expect performance and fuel economy that is a step up from a Miata or GR86, and a vast aftermarket to support modifications as well as parts and service,” Salata said.
chevrolet camaro 2.0t
- Average used price: $25,290
Although the Chevrolet Camaro 2.0T is priced similarly to the Ford Mustang EcoBoost, Salata pointed out that it comes with a different ambiance that many retirees will enjoy, including features like comfortable seating and ample trunk space.
“The 275-horsepower four-banger offers solid daily-driving performance without the expensive insurance that comes with V8s,” Salata shared, “saving retirees money on their vehicle in a number of ways.”
Editor’s note: The average price of each car was taken from CarGurus.
