President Donald Trump said Wednesday he will make a long-shot bid to get the Supreme Court to rehear the case in which it ruled against his executive order that sought to strictly restrict birthright citizenship.
The Supreme Court held on June 30 that children born in the United States are automatically citizens under the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
The majority decision struck down Trump’s executive order that sought to end that benefit for the children of many immigrants.
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump claimed, “Signs and billboards are being put up along our southern border and across Mexico advertising birthright citizenship, ‘Deliveries starting at $4000.’ “
“Similarly, similar signs are being seen across our country,” he wrote. Billions of dollars will be made illegally from this scam, and citizenship will go to anyone willing to pay.”
Trump said, “American citizenship is not for sale! In fact, it is a crime and, therefore, the Supreme Court’s decision is wrong.”
“I will demand an immediate hearing from the Supreme Court of the United States. If they do not reverse their absolutely insane decision this abuse of justice will destroy America.”
