A popular seasoning product has been recalled due to a potential salmonella health risk.
According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice published on May 15, Blackstone Products recalled its Parmesan Ranch seasoning.
This action was taken against California Dairies, Inc. This stemmed from a separate recall of dried milk powder. The milk powder ingredient was supplied to a third-party manufacturer and was used in the seasoning product. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.
The products were sold in Walmart stores and on the Blackstone Products website.
What is Salmonella?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, Salmonella is a group of bacteria that can cause serious and fatal infections in children, the elderly and individuals with weakened immune systems when consumed in food or water. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
The FDA notice states that if the organism enters the bloodstream, severe infection can result in serious diseases such as arterial infection, endocarditis, and arthritis.
