Social Security payments may look a little different this month.
If you receive Supplemental Security Income from the Social Security Administration, you may see two payments arriving in July. But this also means that SSI recipients will not receive payments in August this year.
Here’s what to know about the upcoming Social Security and SSI pay dates.
Why is Social Security sending two payments in July 2026?
Recipients will receive two SSI payments in July, but the second is not extra money, it is the August benefit that has to arrive early.
This is because the August SSI payment is being sent early to July 31 because August 1 falls on a Saturday. The early payment means SSI recipients won’t get another check until September 1.
The multiple payments are due to a calendar quirk, which means the normal August SSI payment is pushed back to July because August 1 falls on a Saturday, and SSI payments cannot be made on weekends. SSI payments typically arrive on the first of each month unless it is a federal holiday or weekend.
What is the difference between SSI and regular Social Security benefits?
Although both programs are run by the Social Security Administration, they serve different purposes. Social Security benefits are earned through work, while SSI helps people with limited income and resources.
Will there be SSI payments in August?
No, the August 1 benefit is being sent early to July 31 because August 1 falls on a Saturday.
Who gets Social Security payments on July 22?
According to the SSA’s payment calendar, recipients born any day from the 21st to the 31st of the month will receive their monthly benefit on July 22. Those born between the 11th and 20th of any month were scheduled to receive monthly Social Security benefits on July 15.
When does Social Security send payments?
Most Social Security recipients receive benefits on Wednesdays, with payment dates determined by their birth dates.
- Date of birth between 1st and 10th: 2nd Wednesday of the month
- Date of birth between 11 and 20: third Wednesday of the month
- Birthdate after 20th: Fourth Wednesday of the month
People who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 usually receive payments on the third day of the month, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday.
Recipients who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income typically receive their Social Security payments on the third day of the month and their SSI benefits on the first day of the month.
