According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mitsubishi is recalling more than 108,000 vehicles in the United States because of a liftgate gas spring cylinder problem.
According to the recall notice, the liftgate gas spring cylinders may deform and lose pressure, resulting in the gas spring cylinder bursting or the liftgate falling unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury.
NHTSA said this recall is an expansion of a previous recall that affected more than 90,000 vehicles in August 2025.

The latest recall affects 108,046 Mitsubishi vehicles of the following models:
- 2018-2022 Outlander PHEV
- 2014-2020 Outlander
What should you do if you have a recalled Mitsubishi vehicle?
Mitsubishi said it will replace the left and right liftgate gas springs free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent June 17. Owners can contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. The company number for this recall is SR-26-001.
