US forces launched strikes on Iranian targets shortly before the US restarted a naval blockade of Iranian ports in and around the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command said on Tuesday.
The latest round of strikes, aimed at “degrading Iranian capabilities used to attack commercial shipping” in the economically important strait, began at 3 p.m. ET, Centcom said in an X-post.
The naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman was set to resume at 4 pm ET.
The blockade was lifted last month after a temporary ceasefire agreement was reached between the US and Iran. But President Donald Trump last week declared the ceasefire “over” after several flare-ups of hostilities in the region, and each side accused the other of violating the terms of the agreement.
