President Donald Trump said Thursday that he has postponed the upcoming signing ceremony for his administration’s highly anticipated executive order on the artificial intelligence industry.
The event, which had been scheduled for Thursday afternoon, was delayed “because I didn’t like some aspects of it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
The United States is ahead of China and the rest of the world in AI, and Trump said, “I don’t want to do anything that gets in the way of that lead.”
He said AI is “doing great work,” and he was concerned that the executive order “could be obstructive.”
The postponement was first reported on Thursday axios. The White House referred Trump’s comments to CNBC when asked for comment on the delay.
