Thermos recalled about 8.2 million food jars and drink bottles sold nationwide after more than two dozen people reported injuries or permanent vision loss.
Thermos is recalling approximately 5.8 million stainless King food jars and approximately 2.3 million Sportsman food & beverage bottles, according to a notice dated April 30 on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website.
“If perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period of time, the stopper may be forced out when opened, resulting in serious injury to the consumer and a risk of injury,” the notice says.
The products were sold for $30 at Target, Walmart, and other stores nationwide from March 2008 to July 2024, as well as online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Target.com, and Thermos.com.
How many people have been injured?
As of April 30, Thermos has received reports of 27 people needing medical care after colliding with the stopper, three of whom suffered permanent vision loss.

- Thermos Stainless King Food Jar, manufactured before July 2023: SK3000 and SK3020
- Thermos Sportsman Food and Drink Bottles, All Units: SK3010
- Food Jars and Food & Beverage Bottles, All Units: SK3000 (16-ounce), SK3020 (24-ounce), SK3010 (40-ounce)
What to do
The company said consumers should immediately stop using the products and contact Thermos to receive a free replacement pressure-relief stopper or replacement bottle, depending on the model.
“For the 3000 and 3020 food jars being recalled, consumers will be asked to throw away the stopper and send a photo of the disposed stopper to Thermos,” the company said. “For the 3010 bottles recalled, consumers will be asked to return their recalled bottles to Thermos using a prepaid shipping label.”
