President Donald Trump on Monday said the United States has asked him to delay his planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing for “a month or two” because of the ongoing war with Iran.
Trump was expected to visit China in late March for a meeting with Xi.
But when asked in the Oval Office Monday afternoon if that trip was still on the table, Trump said, “I don’t know, we’re working on that right now.”
Trump said, “We are talking to China. I would love to do that, but because of the war I want to stay here. I think I have to stay here.”
“And so, we have requested that we delay it by a month or two,” Trump said.
“I’m looking forward to being with him. We have a very good relationship,” he said.
He added, “There’s no trick to it.” “It’s very simple. There is a war going on between us. I feel it is important for me to stay here.”
