one in blog postSuze Orman said that right now, it is especially important for people to invest in themselves and their career skill sets due to the rapid advancements of artificial intelligence (AI). People who can adapt to changing work environments and understand technological advancements can be a resource for companies rather than being replaced by AI. research from Harvard Business Review found that 39% of organizations surveyed have already reduced their workforce due to AI, but Orman has some suggestions for standing out.

He explained that you don’t need to go back to school to stay relevant at work. Here are ways to improve your work skills.

How certifications can help people progress at work

Orman said the economy is in danger of slowing down. He said the recession could lead to layoffs, which is why it’s more important than ever for people to improve their skills or move on to new careers. The best way to do this is to learn new skills and earn certifications.

For example, obtaining project management certification can help workers be promoted to leadership positions. Employees can go from being a small part of a larger team to learning the skills needed to keep projects on track. Another example is obtaining a data analytics certification. This certificate can help creative people like writers, photographers, and videographers learn how to evaluate the success of online projects and allocate advertising dollars.

Use work benefits to make skill-building more affordable

Finally, Orman said it’s important for people to check with their human resources department at work to see if their company offers tuition assistance for certificate programs or specific online programs that teach valuable skills. Additionally, Orman encourages employees to be active at work by asking them to attend conferences and workshops that can help them become assets at work. This can help employees show commitment to standing up at work and improving themselves, making them less likely to be laid off in a downsizing period.
