Many of us may be tempted to spend money on a luxury item again and again. However, luxury fashion is not cheap.

So before you consider your card, take a look at what some experts have to say about which luxury brands are worth the money and which aren’t.

Also check out five products where you should ditch name brands altogether in 2026 if you want to have more cash.

    not worth the extra expense

According to experts, here are some brands that aren’t worth your money.

Ward Kampf, President of Northwood RetailExplained Balenciaga is often intentionally provocative (as in the case of its “Tote Garbage Bag”), but true luxury depends on craftsmanship and durability—not on shock value.

    dolce and gabbana

This brand may be great for a singular “wow” moment, but, according to founder and managing director Tracy Lamourie. Lamouri MediaHaving walked the red carpet with several customers, the fabric and tailoring are not what you would expect from this price point.

    gucci

“Over the years, Gucci has become more focused on paying for the logo than paying for timeless or groundbreaking designs,” Kampf said.

Lamouri said this is especially true of her ready-to-wear collections, which often prioritize branding over durability, sustainability and high-quality tailoring.

“The products appear to be mass-produced with streetwear-level construction, but they are priced on par with luxury,” Lamouri said. When the price is based more on cultural relevance than craftsmanship, it may be a hoax.

What makes a luxury item worth its price?

Sharon Warton, stylist Sharon Warton Fashion Stylistexplained that “real luxury is quiet.” He shares some simple ways to tell if an item is worth its price.

    • Material: Quality items contain natural fibers, not synthetic blends.
    • Construction: Quality stitching, lining and hardware exemplify true luxury.
    • Timelessness: Ask yourself whether you will still like an item in five to 10 years and whether you will be willing to buy it multiple times.
    • beauty: “Is it even beautiful without the logo?” Vartan asked. Luxury items don’t need you telling them they’re luxurious.
    • Resale: Simple math. If an item has resale value, it is worth the price.

    Which brands exemplify quality luxury?

As far as brands that exemplify quality luxury are concerned, experts shared the following.

    • Bottega Veneta: Lamouri said Bottega’s quality materials and superior leather work speak for themselves — no logo necessary. The items are also highly durable.
    • Stella McCartney: Lamouri explained that Stella McCartney offers well-crafted, high-quality luxury that is “consciously created to perform in real life, not just look good on a model.”
    • Channel: Wharton explained that Chanel items are beautifully made, timeless and retain their value over time.
    • Quarrel: Per Wharton, The Row offers a minimalist atmosphere. The clothes are exquisitely made with amazing fabrics, quality tailoring and no big logos.
