Iran has rejected a US ceasefire offer and put forward its own list of conditions to end the war, Iranian state media reported on Wednesday.
state broadcaster press tvIran’s five-point counterproposal would give Tehran control over the Strait of Hormuz, the report said, citing a senior political-security official with knowledge of the details of the proposal.
That could be a non-starter for US President Donald Trump, who on Monday raised the possibility that the vital oil-shipping route could be jointly controlled by “me and the ayatollahs”.
Iran also wants war-related reparations, the official told state news outlets.
According to Press TV, here is Iran’s full list of conditions:
- Full stop to “aggression and killings” by the enemy.
- Establish concrete mechanisms to ensure that war is not again imposed on the Islamic Republic.
- Guaranteed and clearly defined payments of war damages and compensation.
- End of the war on all fronts and for all resistance groups involved in the entire region.
- Iran’s exercise of sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz is and will remain Iran’s natural and legal right, and it guarantees the implementation of the other party’s commitments, and must be recognized.
Earlier on Wednesday Fars News AgencyAnother state media outlet, citing a knowledgeable source, said there have been increased US efforts to impose a ceasefire and start indirect negotiations with Iran to end the war.
“Iran does not accept the ceasefire,” that source told FARS, according to the news site’s translation. telegram page Who informed about the interview.
“Fundamentally, it is not logical to engage in such a process with those who violate the agreement,” the source said.
The source also told Fars that Iran intends to realize its strategic goals in the war, and only when that happens will the conflict be likely to end, the outlet reported.
The conflict began on 28 February with US and Israeli strikes against the Islamic Republic.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Associated Press had reported that Iran had received Trump’s 15-point peace plan.
Trump said on Tuesday that America and Iran are currently in talks. Iran has denied any direct talks.
