American Airlines hikes bag fees due to rising airline costs

American Airlines has joined the flock of major US carriers that have increased the cost of checked bags. The Texas-based airline announced April 9 that it was increasing the cost of checked bags along with updating its basic economy fares. American Airlines said the changes are the result of a “continued evaluation of pricing in light of the current operating environment.”
