President Donald Trump said Thursday that the leaders of Israel and Lebanon agreed to a 10-day ceasefire after officials from the two countries met in Washington.

Trump said in a statement that the temporary ceasefire would begin at 5 p.m. ET. satya social post.

one in follow upTrump said he would invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House “for the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983, a long time ago.”

“Both sides want to see peace, and I believe it will happen soon!” Trump wrote.

The development adds to growing hopes of an agreement to end the Middle East war, which the US and Israel launched against Iran on February 28.

Israel’s massive military strikes on Lebanon last week prompted Iran to accuse it of already violating its own fragile two-week ceasefire. Despite US-Iran peace talks ending without a deal over the weekend, Trump said this week that war is “very close”, while the White House is optimistic about “the prospects for a deal”.

Trump wrote in Thursday’s cease-fire post that he had “excellent conversations” with Netanyahu and Aoun.

The two leaders reached an agreement “to achieve peace between our countries,” Trump wrote.

Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Kaine will “work with Israel and Lebanon to achieve lasting peace,” Trump said.
