actblueA donation website that helps Democratic candidates raise small-dollar donations raised $568 million in the first quarter of the year, according to the organization. This is 50% more than the amount raised in the same quarter during the last midterm in 2022.
The group said the total includes $391 million for federal candidates and $119 million for state and local candidates.
In addition to federal, state, and local candidates, ActBlue is also used by other Democratic groups. According to the group, approximately $58 million was raised for charities and civic organizations.
According to the group, ActBlue said it received a total of 15 million contributions, including 686,000 new donors. The average donation through the platform was $38. ActBlue’s announcement comes ahead of the official filing of their March fundraising statement.
Politicians often present small-dollar donors as evidence of grassroots support, while they also raise money from congressional leadership and corporate political action committees that take larger donations.
These figures have come to light while ActBlue is under investigation. congressional republican and this Justice Department on whether he is doing enough to prevent foreign donors from donating illegally to US campaigns.
In a blog post Tuesday morning, the group will defend the safeguards it has in place to prevent fraud and meet Federal Election Commission requirements.
“ActBlue’s engineering team has built strong security measures into every layer of the platform,” writes Jason Wong, ActBlue’s vice president of engineering. “We are committed to staying ahead of emerging threats and evolving our systems to protect the integrity of our infrastructure.”
