One of Hollywood’s most prominent leading men during the long heights of his career – and still a notable figure best known to most movie lovers around the world – Harrison Ford is keeping his role, even though he recently hinted that retirement may be nigh, according to New York Post.
But how have their substantial lifetime earnings affected their Social Security payments?
Although the details associated with one’s Social Security check are inherently private, educated guesses can still be made. In this case, considering that the 82-year-old actor has been receiving benefits since at least the age of 70, some assumptions can be made on this basis.
‘Star Wars’ Star Harrison Ford and Social Security Check Estimates
While Ford achieved great success on the silver screen at a relatively mature age, being 35 when “Star Wars: A New Hope” was released in 1977, it can be reasonably assumed that his income before that point was more modest.
However, secondly, given that Ford may have delayed receiving his Social Security benefit payments until age 70 (it would have been wise to delay the process last year), his income history before his debut as the eccentric-yet-lovable rogue Han Solo is immaterial; Social Security Administration (SSA) uses only the top 35 earning years when calculating taxable contributions paid and, thus, disbursements during retirement.
Average Social Security check for a retired US worker?
ssa notes The average Social Security retirement benefit comes to $2,071 per month, and it is almost certain (although, again, no one knows Ford’s personal tax and retirement benefit situation) that Ford’s profit is significantly higher.
If his benefits had started at age 70 (in 2012), the star of “The Fugitive” would be taking home a monthly Social Security check of about $4,640 today. it is calculated By looking at the maximum benefit ($3,266) received in 2012 and then applying a cost of living adjustment (COLA) to reach today’s equivalent.
Either way, it’s almost certain that Harrison Ford’s royalties or residuals – in addition to his existing contracts for acting gigs – reduce his Social Security benefit checks.
