April Supplemental Security Income checks are scheduled to be issued on April 1.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are typically issued on the first day of the month, but sometimes payments go out early when the first calendar day of the month is a weekend or holiday. According to the Social Security Administration’s calendar, in April, the first day of the month falls on Wednesday, and payments will be made on April 1.

This begins a period of four consecutive months in which SSI checks will be issued on the 1st of the month. Then, in July, August checks will go out early on Friday, July 31, because August 1 is a Saturday.

What is Supplemental Security Income, or SSI?

Supplemental Security Income is a program administered by the Social Security Administration that provides benefits for people with limited or no income or resources, people age 65 and older, and people who are blind or have a qualifying disability. According to the SSA website, children with qualifying disabilities are also eligible for SSI.

Adults who earn more than $2,073 monthly from work are generally not eligible for benefits. According to the agency, approximately 7.4 million Americans currently receive monthly SSI payments and about one-third of SSI recipients also receive Social Security benefits.

To see if you are eligible for SSI, visit the Social Security website. You can also visit your local Social Security office in person, or call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 AM to 7 PM local time during weekdays.
