President Donald Trump said Thursday that Iran allowed a total of 10 oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz this week as a “gift” to the United States.
Trump said during a Cabinet meeting that Iran used this signal to show the United States the fact that “we are real and solid and we are right there.”
Trump made the claim after insisting that the US has “very important negotiations going on with respect to Iran”, although Tehran has denied that direct talks have begun.
The comments provide answers to questions raised two days ago, when Trump first said Iran “gave us a gift” related to oil and gas, without elaborating.
