Madewell is recalling about 5,900 women’s sweaters after federal safety officials said the fabric fails to meet mandatory flammability standards, posing a risk of burns that could result in serious injury or death.
The recall, announced July 16 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, covers two styles of Madewell-branded sweaters sold in Madewell and TJ Maxx stores nationwide, as well as online at Madewell.com.
According to the CPSC, the recalled sweaters violate a federally mandated standard for apparel fabrics. The agency said there is a risk of serious burns or death if clothing catches fire.
Madewell has received one report of a sweater catching fire. No injuries have been reported.
Which Madewell sweaters are being recalled?
The recall involves the Madewell Double V-Neck Pullover Sweater (Style #NT611) and V-Neck Cardigan Sweater (Style #NT612).
The sweaters were sold with or without buttons and came in light blue and cream colors. These feature long sleeves, a V-neck and were available to purchase in sizes XS to L for women.
Consumers can identify the recalled products by examining the neck label, which displays the “Madewell” brand name and size, and the sewn-in side seam label marked with style #NT611 or style #NT612 and “HO24.”
The sweaters were sold from December 2024 to October 2025 for $138 to $148.
What should consumers do?
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled sweaters and contact Madewell for a full refund of original payment or store credit.
To receive a refund, customers will be asked to destroy the sweater by cutting it in half, emailing a photo of the destroyed garment to Madewell customer service, and then disposing of it.
Consumers with questions can contact Madewell toll-free at 866-544-1937 daily from 9am to 9pm ET or visit the company’s recall page for additional information.
