The US will hold “technical talks” with Iran and is committed to finding a solution to the conflict despite air strikes by both countries in recent days, MS Now reported on Thursday, citing a US official.

According to MS Now, the official said President Donald Trump has made his position clear and described Iran’s attacks on commercial vessels as “terrorist acts”.

The comments came after Trump said at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, that the ceasefire with Iran was “over.”

The US official told MS NOW that the memorandum of understanding between the two countries is performance-based, and Iran’s actions are an “unacceptable level of failure”, adding that talks with Tehran will continue.

The ceasefire signed last month has come under severe strain in recent days, as US and Iranian forces launched attacks this week. “I don’t want to deal with them (Iran) anymore,” Trump said at the NATO summit.

While returning from the summit, Trump said that Iran had asked for a deal to stop the increasing hostilities in the Middle East. He said, “They called a while ago. They want to make a deal so badly. I don’t know if they’re worth making a deal. I don’t know if they’ll honor the deal. That’s the problem.”

Iranian authorities have Accused America of not respecting the MOUCiting violations of “Iranian accommodation” in the Strait of Hormuz, “continued threats of further attacks” and reinstating oil sanctions.

The US military launched renewed offensive attacks against Iran in response to the attack on three commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The US Treasury Department later withdrew the waiver that had allowed Iran to sell its oil.

Oil prices were marginally lower in Asia trading on Friday, with global benchmark Brent crude futures for September delivery falling as low as $76.3 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures were at $71.87.
