Should you really think about retiring to a new country? That means… who should consider this idea? Certainly it’s not for everyone.
Selling everything you own… packing up or giving away every possession… buying a plane ticket to a foreign country… and then coming back and trying to make a new life?
Who would do this? And why would anyone do this?
You know the big-picture reasons for considering this big idea. There are so many, and my team and I remind you of them often.
Plus, I’m sure you have your own personal reasons for considering taking this leap and starting a new life in a new country.
But is retiring abroad really for you?
I would say the fact that you are even considering this idea Retiring to another country Gives you part of the answer to that question.
Because thinking the idea means you have one of the two qualities needed to achieve great success in it.
1. Open minded
The world is a big, interesting place full of opportunities and choices. These are not all roses. Bad things happen…are happening…will continue to happen.
There may be worse things to come. We recognize all that.
But, here at Live & Invest Overseas, we choose to focus on the possibilities and promises that surround us, rather than the problems and troubles.
We choose to recognize that, no matter what we have experienced to date, we do not know everything… and we are always eager to learn more.
We have our ideas… Now we would like to get acquainted with some other ideas from other people in other parts of the world. How do they do things? How do they live their lives? What can we learn from them?
If you share that way of seeing the world, I would say, yes, a new life abroad It can be everything you’re imagining.
What other quality do you need to try it out?
2. Sense of humor
Your open mind will lead you to all kinds of new and interesting places and experiences. This will allow you to completely reinvent your life (if you want to do so) … and make discoveries that you probably couldn’t even imagine today.
Some will be the greatest, grandest adventures and most fun of your lifetime.
Others will frustrate, scare, worry, confuse you, even conspire to drive you out of your mind. In a few days, as you enjoy the new life in heaven that you have long dreamed of, your patience will be tested and your fuse will weaken.
On those days, when nothing makes sense and no one is around to help, what will you do?
You will choose. You’ll either groan and moan, rant and rave, and wonder what’s wrong with those you’re living among… why don’t they understand? …
Or you will smile. you will laugh.
You must remember that nothing is a perfect rose and nowhere is it perfect.
You’ll remind yourself of the big reasons you made this jump, of all the benefits you’re enjoying from living where you are now.
And you will laugh.
It is this decision you will face again and again, perhaps every day, that will determine the ultimate outcome of your personal retirement overseas adventure.
If you can choose the absurdity and chaos around you as interesting and engaging rather than irritating and blood pressure-raising, you’re golden.
