US Central Command said on Monday that Iran fired two ballistic missiles overnight at US forces stationed in Kuwait, the latest in a series of attacks that further undermine the ceasefire.
The missiles fired at 11 p.m. ET Sunday were successfully intercepted and no U.S. personnel were harmed, CENTCOM said in an X-post.
“U.S. Central Command remains alert and will continue to protect our forces from Iranian aggression while supporting the ongoing ceasefire,” the post said.
The attacks followed “self-defense attacks on command and control sites for Iranian radars and drones”. America said it did so over the weekend in response to an earlier Iranian attack.
The tense exchange between the US and Iran came as Israel stepped up its military offensive in Lebanon against the Iran-backed militia Hezbollah.
Iran has repeatedly said Israel’s strikes in Lebanon violate its ceasefire with the US, which began as a two-week pause in mid-April and was later extended indefinitely by President Donald Trump.
“The ceasefire between Iran and the US is clearly a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an X post on Monday morning.
He wrote, “A violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation.”
