According to a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, Honda is recalling approximately 99,000 vehicles because a faulty seat weight sensor could cause the front passenger airbag to deploy incorrectly during a crash.
Honda said in the recall report that a capacitor inside the printed circuit board of the front passenger seat weight sensor may break down after being exposed to moisture, potentially causing an internal short circuit. In the event of an accident, the front passenger’s frontal and knee airbags may deploy despite the presence of an infant, a child, or a small passenger in the child seat, requiring the deployment force to be pressed, increasing the risk of injury.
The recall report states that warning signs may include an illuminated SRS warning light and a passenger airbag indicator that remains off.

What should owners of recalled Honda vehicles do next?
Honda and Acura dealers will replace the seat weight sensor with a non-defective part free of charge.
Dealer notifications were scheduled to begin May 22, while owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 6.
