If you have a car that you care about, you’re no stranger to auto parts stores. Whether you want to shop at Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone or O’Reilly Auto Parts, they have products from many brands and models. Although prices may vary, there are some free services offered by these stores. Here are some of them:

    battery check

While all auto parts stores sell batteries, they can also check the battery currently in your car. If you want to have the voltage tested, you can ask an employee to do a quick test. They will then bring a voltmeter so they can make sure your battery is operating at the correct voltage level. If your battery has low voltage or won’t turn on at all, they can charge it for you. They can also test your alternator and starter for you.

    Diagnosing Check Engine Light

An unexpected check engine light can surprise us all. Before you take your vehicle to a potentially expensive dealership or mechanic, you can take it to an auto parts store to have the problem checked. They can scan your vehicle with an OBD-II scanner tool that reads the codes sent by your ride. They can recommend the part you need to fix the problem or refer you to a professional if the problem is beyond your ability.

    Recycle fluids and old batteries

If you change your own oil or transmission fluid, do not throw it in the trash. Instead, take it to an auto parts store where they will dispose of it properly. They can also take old car batteries and recycle them. In addition to giving them your batteries, many stores will give you a $10 in-store credit that you can use on your next purchase.

    Free Lender Tools

Another unique service offered by auto parts stores is the Loan-a-Tool program. If you’re doing some work on your vehicle and there’s a specific tool you need but don’t have, a shop may be able to loan it to you. They offer tool sets for various parts of the vehicle, including the fuel system, drivetrain, engine, brakes, bearings, and many other car parts. As long as you return your equipment on time and in good condition, it should be free.

    paint mixing and matching

Over time, the exteriors of cars can become cracked or scratched and will need some paint to touch up. At O’Reilly Auto Parts and Advance Auto Parts, they offer free paint mixing and matching to match your car’s exact paint color.

Installing the windshield wipers and batteries you purchase from them

If you purchase a new set of windshield wipers you can easily install them yourself. But after purchasing a set from an auto parts store they will install them for free. They can also install new car batteries that you buy from them.
