Flying out of Boston Logan International Airport soon? You can go through TSA security before you get to the airport – once you get there, you can go straight to your gate.
Starting June 1, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), which operates the Boston hub, is launching a “first-of-its-kind” pilot program called the Logan Airport Remote Terminal in Framingham to streamline air travel, according to a May 18 news release. The pilot program will be operated in partnership with a third-party contractor, Landline Company.
The new program promises Metro West air passengers “a quieter travel experience” by having them check-in and go through security not at the airport, but at a remote terminal in Framingham. They then arrive at the airport by bus, bypass the security lines, and go straight to their gate.
“The remote terminal pilot program is part of Massport’s broader vision to reimagine the travel experience and make the passenger journey more seamless, connected and efficient,” Massport CEO Rich Dewey said in a news release. “Travelers in and around Metro West now have a new, less-stress way to get to Boston Logan. Imagine arriving at the airport after already being checked in and through security clearance and then being dropped off just steps from your gate. It’s the kind of stress-free process we’re working to make a reality for everyone.”
In the release, Massport said the remote terminal expands on the Logan Express System (LX), a high-occupancy bus transportation program that transports passengers from five locations in Boston directly to the terminal precinct. In 2025, 2.7 million people used the LEX system, with Framingham the busiest location on the network.
How does the pilot program work?
According to the news release, the pilot program is only available to Delta and JetBlue passengers on flights between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., though there are plans to expand access to more airlines in the future.
In Framingham, air travelers will check in with their airline and go through TSA before boarding a “dedicated, secure bus” that will take them to the airport. Their bags will be sent directly through the baggage system.
“This visionary program is exactly the kind of innovation we want to be a part of – elevating travel and getting people to their destinations seamlessly,” Charlie Shewe, Delta’s director of sales, East, said in the release. “We are excited to work with Massport to bring this to life.”
How do you sign up?
To participate in the program, passengers must make a reservation no less than 90 minutes and no more than 90 days in advance of their flight departure. With a return trip via Framingham Lakes service, it will cost $9 one-way.
“Since this is a pilot with limited seats, we encourage travelers to book early and allow some flexibility when the program begins,” Massport said in the release. Reservations can be made online at the MassSport website.
